How To Watch All Barbie Movies in Order

Barbie first came onto the scene as a fashion doll in 1959. It has since then been an integral part of the fashion doll market and has enjoyed tremendous success. This led to its expansion into a media franchise in the 1980s that includes more than forty (40) computer-animated Barbie movies released to date.

Barbie films, which were originally aired on Nickelodeon and distributed on home video formats, had Barbie playing the center character. Like the dolls, Barbie movies have also been a huge success, selling over 110 million units worldwide as of 2013.

How Many Barbie Movies are There?

As of October 2022, 41 Barbie movies have been released. The first phase of movies between 2001 and 2009 were mostly adaptations of previous existing stories. In the second phase, from 2010 to 2015, the storylines moved away from classic princess stories to modern themes of music and fashion.

In this Barbie film loosely based on Mark Twain’s 1881 novel, The Prince and the Pauper, Barbie plays both a blonde princess named Anneliese and a brunette pauper named Erika. Barbie Fairytopia: Magic of the Rainbow is the second sequel to Barbie: Fairytopia after Barbie Fairytopia: Mermaidia. Barbie reprises her role as Elina and goes on another Fairytopia adventure.

Elina and other fairy apprentices go on the annual “Flight of Spring” and try to create the first rainbow of the season using magic. They spend time learning how to do this at the Fairy School at the magnificent Crystal Palace. Before they are able to do this, however, the evil Laverna returns to stop the Flight of Spring and bring ten years of bitter winter to Fairytopia. Elina and her new friends have no option but to put their different talents together in order to defeat Laverna and bring the rainbow to life.

In this installment, the main character Mariposa, who is now the royal Ambassador of Flutterfield, is sent to the Crystal Fairies of Shimmervale to broker peace between the two rivals. While Mariposa fails to make a good first impression on the King of Shimmervale, she becomes best friends with his shy daughter, Princess Catania.

Later on, Mariposa is banished from Shimmervale over a misunderstanding. On her way home, she encounters a dark fairy heading to Shimmervale to destroy it. Mariposa opts to return back to help Princess Catania save her fairy land.

In the 35th Barbie film, Barbie gets magically pulled into her favorite video game, where she transforms into a roller-skating character. She befriends another roller-skating character in the game, princess Bella, as well as the cloud-shaped pet Cutie. The trio goes ahead to work together to play level after level to defeat an evil emoji trying to take control of the game.
