How Old is Nezuko in Demon Slayer and Does She Die?

Nezuko is 12 to 14 years old in Demon Slayer, and she does not die. Rather, she helps her brother, Tanjiro, wage war against the demons and also turns back into human form.

Demon Slayer is a popular Japanese manga that has been turned into an even more popular anime series as well as movies. It tells the story of a society that has to contend with murderous demons and the efforts of one brave boy to cure his sister, who has been infested, as well as defeat these demons for good. The Demon Slayer franchise has generated about $9 billion in sales, making it one of the highest-grossing media franchises.

Demon Slayer Nezuko

Nezuko is one of the protagonists in Demon Slayer. The major protagonist is, however, her elder brother named Tanjiro. Tanjiro and Nezuko live with their other family members in a village located in the mountains. They often face the threat of attacks from demons who convert human beings into fellow demons by biting them. These demons are evil killers and have supernatural strength.

The human society sets up the Demon Slayer Corp to battle these demons, and when Nezuko is bitten and turned into a demon, her brother works hard and joins the Demon Slayer Corp so as to vanquish the demons and find a cure that is going to turn her back into a human.

What is Nezuko Kamado’s Age, and When was She Born?

Nezuko Kamado is 12 years old in Episode 1 Season 1 of Demon Slayer and 14 years old in Episode 3 Season 1. She celebrates her birthday on 28th December, but her birth year is not specified. It is, however, known that the events of Demon Slayer are set during what is known as the Taishō era in Japan, i.e., the era of the reign of Emperor Taishō. This era spans 30 July 1912 to 25 December 1926. This means that Nezuko was born during that time frame.

When the events of Demon Slayer open in Season 1 Episode 1 of the show, Nezuko is a 12-year-old girl who has suffered a terrible loss. Her remaining family members, save for her brother Tanjiro, are killed by the demons, and she herself is turned into a demon. Her brother, therefore, makes it his life mission to fight these demons and find a cure for her.

To do this, he undergoes rigorous two-year training and exams to join the elite Demon Slayer Corp. During this period, Nezuko sleeps for two years straight. This was to gain strength naturally so that she doesn’t have to eat human beings for that purpose. It is during this two-year sleeping period that she turns 14.

How Old is Nezuko in Season 2 of Demon Slayer?

Nezuko’s age does not change in Season 2 of Demon Slayer, as there is no significant time jump between the events of Season 2 and Season 1. Thus, Nezuko is physically 12 years old in Season 2 of Demon Slayer but chronologically 14 years old. The chronological age takes into account the two years she spent sleeping and adds it to her prior age of 12.

Physically, however, it is believed that Nezuko is 12 years old. Demons do not age or experience any aging in their physical features, especially in the Demon Slayer universe. Therefore, even though Nezuko has added two years, it hardly reflects. She still looks like a child with all the innocence that can be expected.

Is Nezuko Older Than Tanjiro?

Nezuko is not older than Tanjiro but rather a year younger than him. As earlier pointed out, Tanjiro is Nezuko’s elder brother. While she is 12 years old, he is 13 years old. When her chronological age increases to 14, he is both chronologically and physically 15. Based on physical progression, the age gap between Tanjiro and Nezuko increases from one to three years.

Nezuko and Tanjiro are quite close. Tanjiro dedicates himself to finding a cure to turn Nezuko back into a human. Nezuko, on her own part, uses her fighting abilities, including her demon abilities, to rescue her brother when he is in a life-threatening situation.

Does Nezuko Die in Demon Slayer?

Nezuko does not die in Demon Slayer, but she nearly loses her life during battles with several feared Demons. For instance, in Episode 19, Season 1 of Demon Slayer, Tanjiro goes up against a demon named Rui, who belongs to the feared Twelve Kizuki (the 12 strongest demons who are only second to the demon king – Muzan).

At a point in the fight, Rui gains the upper hand and throws his sharp thread/webs at Tanjiro. Nezuko steps in front of her brother to save him and sustains several cuts over her body, with one of her hands falling out. Rui, angered by the strong bond between brother and sister, launches more fearsome attacks against them.

At some point, he ties Nezuko up in a web and constricts her body to the extent that she is bleeding profusely. Nezuko nearly dies, but the memories of her loved ones give her and Tanjiro the strength to work together and defeat Rui. Some people have stated that they don’t find this scene believable and that Nezuko should have died, given the extent of injuries she sustained, but it is what it is.

Nezuko also nearly died in Episode 6, Season 2 of Demon Slayer, in a fight with the 113-year-old villain, Daki. Daki flings Nezuko some yards into a building, and she is buried under the rubble. She loses a limb and is cut in half by razor belts but still recovers to Daki’s shock. Some people have criticized this, but Nezuko remains alive, and the story from the manga shows that Nezuko ultimately does not die in Demon Slayer.

Does Nezuko Become Human?

Nezuko becomes human at the end of Demon Slayer. Her brother’s efforts to find a cure ultimately pay off, and she is fully restored back to human form. In this form, she joins hands with her brother and his pals, such as Inosuke and Zenitsu, to battle Muzan, the demon king, who is the person turning other humans into demons and controlling them.

They ultimately defeat him and are able to move on and live normal lives. Nezuko, now back in her human form, goes ahead to marry and have a kid.

How Old is Nezuko at the End of Demon Slayer?

Nezuko is presumed to be chronologically 14 years and several months old at the end of Demon Slayer. The events in the Demon Slayer universe take place within a short period of time, save for the two years of training for Tanjiro and sleep for Nezuko.

There is not much significant time jump except after Muzan is defeated. The next events take place three months later. Things are getting back to normal, and the Demon Slayer Corp is disbanded as they have achieved their purpose. The love birds, which include Nezuko and Zenitsu, go ahead to marry.
