The Jujutsu Kaisen anime series skyrocketed in popularity following its first season. It is now hailed as a beloved modern Shonen classic, thanks to its phenomenal success! What sets it apart in the realm of Shonen stories is its focus on both female characters – a refreshing change, from other genre hits.
The women, in the season of Jujutsu Kaisen are crafted characters with unique aspirations that make a strong impact and play a crucial role in advancing the storyline—depicting women in this shonen series challenges stereotypes by giving them equal significance and complexity compared to the male characters, within the story world.
Jujutsu Kaisen Female Characters
“Many fans appreciate Jujutsu Kaisen for its character designs and diverse personalities showcased in the series.” The Jujutsu Kaisen female characters are known to be incredibly powerful, highly fascinating, and unforgettable.
They make for good waifu material, due to their remarkable strength, but also their captivating beauty and fierce personalities.
The second season of Jujutsu Kaisen was released in 2023; and even though the initial season has just begun airing, viewers are already captivated by the female characters of Jujutsu Kaisen! Check out our ten well known Jujutsu Kaisen female characters below!
1. Maki Zenin
Maki Zenin is widely recognized as the strongest female character, in Jujutsu Kaisen and holds the title of being the daughter of Ogi Zenin and the twin sister of Mai Zenin within the series storyline. She is a prominent figure at Tokyo Jujutsu High School, in her second year of studies there; However, despite being born into a great sorcerer family, she was born without cursed energy.
The Zenin family is famous for its impact and powerful members but also face internal power struggles and discrimination based on abilities within the clan dynamics. When Maki and her twin sister Mai were found lacking the required cursed energy by the clan elders they were forced into servitude. Feeling unhappy with her situation in the Zenin family, Maki made a vow to return one day and challenge the leader for his position before leaving to join Jujutsu High after their confrontation.
The Zenin family had no idea that Makis lack of cursed energy was actually a result of a pact that granted her physical abilities instead. With years of practice and hard work, Maki achieved a mastery with cursed tools, stronger physical capabilities, and lightning fast reflexes.
There have been plenty of stories, about underdogs in anime over the years; however Maki Zenins journey stands out as one of the examples there! At 17 years old Maki exudes a willed and feisty persona, a trait she developed from a young age due to her circumstances. Despite her intimidating personality, Maki actually devotes herself to helping her friends grow stronger because she truly values their happiness and welfare.
The amount of energy a person has in the realm of jujutsu magic could play a role, in their survival during a fight against an adversary. Even though Maki doesn’t have any energy herself she has shown skill that she could be considered among the top tier sorcerers.
By the end of Season 1 of her journey, as a sorcerer she had honed her abilities to the point where she received a top notch endorsement, moving her closer to achieving her goal of leading the Zenin clan.
Maki has always wanted to take the lead in her clan but she doesn’t let that drive consume her entirely. She’s not only about being in charge of Zenin; Maki is known for her bravery and self reliance. She’s an independent individual who can forge ahead on her own without relying on anyone. With strength second only to Yuji, and a strong willed nature, she also shows prowess in wielding various powerful cursed weapons too. Maki expertly sliced through Mais bullet to showcase her quick reflexes and strategic acumen in combat against her twin sister. She demonstrated strength, endurance and intellect during the skirmish.
Makis narrative and purpose align with themes found in stories centered around protagonists in the shonen genre. Portraying an underdog determined to ascend to the pinnacle of a society that initially spurned them. The twist in Jujutsu Kaisen by flipping the genders offers classic take while adding a fresh angle to this traditional archetype.
2. Miwa Kasumi
Miwa Kasumi is a character, from Jujutsi Kaisen who doesn’t get enough credit in my opinion! At 17 years old and a second year student at Kyoto Jujutsi High School, she’s often regarded as the top “waifu”, from the series.
Miwas tendency to view herself as useless contributes to her being perceived as underestimated by others; yet her team members recognize and admire her talents. One of her colleagues named Kamo mentioned that having Miwa around during the encounter, with the spirit Hanami would bring him some relief. Even though Miwa harbors uncertainties within herself; she proves capable in battles and stands as a reliable friend.
Miwa’s reasons for pursuing a career as a jujutsu sorcerer may not stand out as much as others, but they are still meaningful and valid nonetheless. She is dedicated to mastering jujutsu to provide stability for her family as she comes from humble beginnings.
At Jujutsu High School Miwa Kasumi is considered a third grade jujutsu sorcerer known for her strength and combat skills, than natural talent. She has the ability to detect curses and specializes in dispelling them using her barrier techniques. Kasumi is skilled in swordsmanship, often wielding a sword as her weapon in battles. Her standout techniques include the “Sword Drawing Technique (Batou)” and the “New Shadow Style.”
Even though Miwa isn’t the strongest character; lets not underestimate her combat skills – they’re pretty impressive! She managed to hold her ground against Maki for a while before getting outsmarted – quite a feat in its right! Without a technique up her sleeve; shes got this knack for handling cursed energy and creating a basic domain of her own making anyone who steps inside it an easy target, for her attacks.
Her ability to make decisions is noticeably different, from female shonen characters who often seem to let their emotions interfere with their logical thinking processes as portrayed in a stereotypical manner in various narratives. When juxtaposed with male characters, these female characters are often faulted for not displaying the same level of confidence and determination but Miwa breaks that stereotype convincingly.
Even though Miwa shares the enthusiasm and energy as any beloved “waifu” character in shonen anime, she always prioritizes her duties as a student and a jujutsu sorceress, without fail. She admires Gojo Satoro who is considered the powerful sorcerer; however that didn’t stop her from firmly reprimanding him for showing disrespect towards her mentor. Miwa found herself unsure whether confronting Gojo was the right decision when she and her classmates were tasked with the mission of eliminating Yuji. She made an effort to deliver a killing blow but showed a slight moment of hesitation at the critical juncture.
She is an hardworking woman, with a humble and polite attitude that has endeared her to fans of Jujutsu Kaisen.
3. Mai Zenin
Meet Mai Zenin; the feisty sister of Maki Zenin! She’s a second year student, at Kyoto Jujuts High School and holds the rank of grade 3 jujuts sorcerer.
Although Mai and Maki are twins, by birthright; they do not see eye to eye. Mai takes the pains to distance herself from her sister by choosing different outfits and styling her hair differently. Mai even enrolled in a rival school to where Maki studies. She often teases her sister for not possessing energy and seems to take pleasure in embarrassing her publicly. While this may come across as sibling rivalry; it is actually rooted in emotional wounds.
The elders in her clan pressured Mai to undergo training as a jujutsu sorcerer due to Maki’s departure from the Zenin clan to pursue her sorcery aspirations; they began targeting Mai because of her association with Maki. To prevent disgrace to the clans reputation and seeing Makis sorcerer dreams materialize in reality, the elders were led to compel Mai into becoming a sorcerer. Following her defeat by Maki, in the season of Jujutsu Kaisen series prompted Mai to open up about her past during a moment.
Despite the added challenges of competing with her sisters shadow looming over her life’s journey, like a cloud to burst with raindrops of bitterness and resentment at any moment, The true source of her deep seated disdain, for her twin wasn’t born out of mere rivalry or envy alone but rather stemmed from a broken vow that Maki had made in their shared childhood innocence never to forsake her side come what may.
As a child, growing up in Mai’s shoes meant facing a seated unease, around innocent cursed spirits while embracing a gentle demeanor and accepting the self-absorbed choices of the elders, with grace – aware that they would shape her path as a sorcerer in ways she would have to navigate frequently.
Mai possesses a straightforward demeanor and excels in utilizing snipers and pistols with exceptional accuracy skills. She assumed the role of leading her clan after Maki’s departure from her family when she was a child. This led to Mai harboring animosity, towards Maki and often labeling him as feeble and ineffectual.
Mai possesses a low level of cursed energy compared to other sorcerers; however she still exhibits unique abilities despite this limitation. In particular, Mai excels in construction skills, specializing in crafting bullets infused with her cursed energy that she loads into her pistol.
At 17 years old she showed she had the magic skills as her classmates, despite not having much cursed energy to rely on. She never complained about her situation or showed dissatisfaction from the way her teammates treated her. Even though she didn’t enjoy her job much, Mai was committed to giving it her best shot. Mai is determined not to let her concerns or circumstances control her narrative – whether it’s out of duty to her clan or a personal commitment to maintaining a level of integrity, for herself and Maki.
4. Nobara Kugisaki
Nobara Kugisaki is widely recognized as the best among the girls in Jujutsu Kaisen at 15 years old. She’s a freshman at Tokyo Jujutsi High School. Plays a role, in the series as a grade 3 jujutsi sorcerer under the tutelage of Gojo Satoro.
Nobaras motivation to pursue a career as a jujutsu sorcerer is straightforward. She simply desires to reside in Tokyo and she saw joining Jujutsu High as the most expedient path, to realizing this ambition.
Nobara displayed a moment of admiration, towards Maki after learning about her backstory in Jujutsu Kaisen. Marking the first time she acknowledged someone other than herself in such a manner. Nobara exudes confidence and carries herself with unwavering pride; and while some may view her as arrogant, she remains steadfast, in honoring her commitments.
Nobara Kugisaki firmly believes in staying true, to herself without compromising for anyone or anything else. Although she may seem self absorbed and focused on her looks, like a school “mean girl” her true loyalty and dedication shine through once she forms close bonds with Yuji and Fushiguro.
Numerous times throughout the series, Nobara demonstrated that her skills are on par with those of high-class jujutsu users. Even before she came to the school, she was quite skilled at expelling curses with her natural talent. Thanks to her innate “Straw Doll Technique,” she can also send damage to both her straw doll and her opponents by channeling her cursed energy.
In instances, across the series Nobara showcased her expertise matching that of jujutsu practitioners. Prior to enrolling in the school she displayed a knack for dispelling curses, with her abilities. Utilizing her Straw Doll Technique ” she has the ability to inflict harm upon both her straw doll and adversaries by directing her cursed energy.
Nobara wields cursed tools, like a hammer and hairpin with precision and control due to her connection, to cursed energy.
The connection, between Nobara and Maki in the series had an impact on the plot because, unlike contrived rivalry often seen in other anime shows, there was no forced rivalry between Nobara and Maki. In shonen anime where mentorship bonds are rare among females characters, these two have a dynamic that promises to evolve beautifully as the series unfolds.
5. Momo Nishimiya
One powerful female character, from Jujutsu Kaisen is Momo Nishimiya. An 18 year old who may be short but is big on impact and values her looks greatly! She holds the spot in the manga’s character popularity survey and is a senior, at Kyoto Jujutsu High School.
Though her familys past was cloaked in secrecy, she gained admission, to Kyoto High based on her lineage. Interestingly, her father has an American-Japanese background. Momo tends to be reserved and often finds herself swayed by the opinions of her peers.
Her special ability enables her to act as a scout, for sorcerers by handling her broom through “Tool Manipulation.” By staying airborne over the battlefield and pinpointing targets below with precision and also using her broom for strikes against enemies in combat situations make her one of the strongest female characters in Jujutsu Kaisen due, to her exceptional Tool manipulation prowess.
During a competition, with students from Tokyo High School, Momo showcases her impressive talent. Her knack, for pinpointing Yuji in this match exemplifies her prowess in espionage.
6. Tsukimi Fushigoro
Tsumiki is a 16 year girl who’s the stepsister of Megumi Fushiguro and the stepdaughter of Toji Fushiguro, who made an appearance in the series: Death Painting Arc flashback scene. She is portrayed as a character who deeply cares for her brother. When she visited Yasohachi Bridge with her classmates from Urami East Junior High in Saitama, she encountered a cursed spirit on the bridge which led her into a coma.
In the first season of the series “Tokyo Jujutsu High ” Tsumiki does not showcase any powers or talents despite being a minor character, in the storyline; however she holds significant value in Megumis life as a fellow first year student at the school.
7. Mei Mei
Mei Mei is a character, in the series who practices grade 1 jujutsu and is considered one of the attractive female characters in Jujutsu Kaisen universe. She is around 33 years old and views her role as a jujutsu sorcerer primarily as a source of income. She participates in battles for gain and requires substantial compensation before engaging in any combat activities. Formerly a student, at Tokyo Jujutsu High School and Satoro Gojos senior colleague, Mei Mei demonstrates wisdom and composure when faced with challenges.
Mei’s powers have not been fully investigated yet as there has only been one season to fully explore them so far; however she does have an affinity, for cursed energy. The Cursed Technique that Mei Mei possesses is quite simple in nature. She can infuse crows with her cursed energy and control them from using a skill called Black Bird Manipulation.
Mei Mei wields a battle axe shaped tool with finesse and prefers quick solutions over prolonged conflicts; her signature move is the deadly “Bird Strike” that no one besides Gojo Satoru has ever survived.
Among her friends, Mei Mei is well liked for her skills as a Jujutsu sorcerer with a bird strike ability that sets her apart in the series even though she doesn’t rely on the aggressive cursed technique.
8. Akari Nitta
Akari is a former Yankee and the elder sister of Arata Nitta, in the Jujutsu Kaisen series where she plays a role as a manager at Tokyo Jujutsu High School, always seen in her black suit typical of managers in the series. Among the characters in Jujutsu Kaisen universe, she is known for her demeanor attributed to her nature.

Shoko ranks 27th place in the Manga’s character popularity survey and plays a supporting role in the Jujutsu Kaisen series as the sole physician at Tokyo Jujutsu High School, dealing with considerable stress levels. Her casual demeanor coupled with a lack of emotion renders her an appealing figure among the characters in Jujutsu Kaisen.
During high school, she attended the same class as Gojo Satoru, and in just two years, through dubious means, Shoko became a certified doctor.
Shoko is an enigmatic woman who is dedicated to performing her job, but because of her tendencies and the stress she endures which is evident in the bags under her eyes from lack of sleep, the 29 year old tends to indulge in alcohol frequently.
Shoko also has a gift, for reversing curses that enables her to heal others, and because of her proficiency at healing, she holds a crucial role among the jujutsu sorcerers community; she remains neutral and uninvolved with the higher ranks or Gojos faction.
10. Utahime Lori
At 31 years old, Utahime holds the 21st position, in the Manga’s character popularity survey despite being portrayed as a minor character in the series at Kyoto Jujutsu High School, where she is highly esteemed by her students, from Kyoto and recognized as a semi grade 1 jujutsu sorcerer.
