Does Shinobu Die?

Yes, Shinobu dies in the penultimate arc of Demon slayer manga. Shinobu’s death occurs during a battle with Doma, an upper rank-2 Twelve Kizuki demon. Unfortunately, the demon who murdered her older sister was also able to kill her. Shinobu sacrificing herself to kill a demon is a gruesome sight.

Her weak and fragile body prevents her from beheading the demon, but she infects and kills the demon with her poisoned blade. Despite her lack of extreme power, she is a skilled swordswoman who can compete with Giyuu and the other Hashiras.

Demon Slayer’s anime follows the manga, thus, Shinobu’s death is final and there is currently no possibility of her return.

How Does Shinobu Die?

Shinobu’s death takes place when she meets Doma, the demon responsible for her missing subordinates in the Infinity Castle Arc. She walks in and finds him devouring her subordinates, which enrages her and drives her crazy. When Doma finally notices her, he responds happily, thanking Nakime for making another meal available in the room.

Shinobu is asked by one of the female disciples who is still alive, to save her, but Doma, enraged by this, attempts to kill the female. However, Shinobu intervenes and saves the disciple. She asks the young woman if she’s all right, but before she can respond, the young woman explodes and dies in front of her.

The explosion further angers Shinobu, further fueled by Doma’s insistence on saving the girl by killing her. Shinobu then notices a pair of sharp fans used by Doma as his main weapon and angrily asks him if he remembers the haori which came from her older sister.

Doma finally remembers Kanae’s butterfly-winged haori and expresses his disappointment at not being able to eat Kanae due to the rising sun, which even further irritates Shinobu. Doma’s goading causes Shinobu to lose control even further. To stab Doma’s eye, she uses Insect Breathing, Dance of the Bee Sting: True Flutter.

But Shinobu had no idea Doma was well aware of her poisoning ability. He begins to produce antibodies, immediately healing himself. Shinobu, on the other hand, refuses to give up and attacks him with Insect Breathing, Dance of the Dragonfly: Compound Eye Hexagon.

This injures him, but also enrages the demon, causing him to strike her even further. Shinobu is severely injured by his strike but attempts a final move using Insect Breathing, Hundred-Legged Zigzag.

She stabs Doma in the neck, sending him flying to the ceiling. Shinobu, although exhausted and injured, triumphs as she witnesses Doma being poisoned and apparently dying as a result of her attack.

Doma, on the other hand, recovers from his attack almost instantly, which enrages Shinobu even more. Shinobu is exhausted, mortally wounded, and dangerously close to death when he is caught by Doma as they fall from the ceiling.

As Doma catches Shinobu in the free fall, he confronts her, claiming that her efforts were all for show and no seriousness. He also told her that she didn’t stand a chance from the start. Doma then absorbs Shinobu’s body. When Kanao and Inosuke enter the room, they are met with a horrifying sight.

However, something unexpected happens. Shinobu had consumed the poison of the Wisteria flower on a daily basis, rendering her body poisonous on a high level. She possessed 37 kilos of wisteria flower poison, more than enough to kill a demon. She had already envisioned her death in the hands of Doma.

Although the poison wasn’t enough to kill Doma because he was an upper rank-2 demon, her actions allowed Kanao and Inosuke to land their final blow, completely severing Doma’s head. Shinobu passes away with no regrets and meets her older sister Kanae in the spirit world. The death of Shinobu Kocho, the butterfly Hashira, will be remembered as one of the franchise’s saddest moments. Her death was unexpected, leaving fans distraught.

What Chapter Does Shinobu Die?

The plot of Shinobu’s death occurs very late in the narrative, in Chapter 143 of the manga, during the Infinity Castle arc. However, her death is yet to be depicted in the anime.

Shinobu’s death was depicted in Chapter 143 titled “Wrath,” which was published as part of Volume 17 on January 28th, 2019. Shinobu is killed and devoured by Doma in this arc, just like many of Doma’s victims. However, in her case, it was a form of sacrifice. She had poisoned her body in hopes that it would be enough to kill him or weaken him enough for her allies to finish him up.

Shinobu’s plan comes to fruition when Kanao and Inosuke Hashibira successfully separate Doma’s disfigured head, exacting revenge.

Shinobu and Doma’s heads talk in Limbo, where Doma finally expresses his feelings for Shinobu by proposing that they go to Hell together. She smiles cruelly and declines.

Shinobu is last seen with her sister Kanae, before happily rejoining their parents in the afterlife. Thereafter, Shinobu and Kanae’s reincarnations attend an all-girls school in future Japan.

Giyuu’s Reaction to Shinobu’s Death

When Giyuu learns of Shinobu’s death, he is visibly shocked and upset. This is in contrast to his emotional reaction to the deaths of his other Demon Slayers, such as Kyojuro Rengoku, Muichiro Tokito, and Genya Shinazugawa.

Giyuu Tomioka is a major character in the popular Japanese anime/manga series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. He is a member of the Demon Slayer Corps and the current Water Hashira.

Giyuu and Shinobu are Demon Slayer Corps Hashira. They have polar opposite personalities and appear to be at odds at first. Some fans believe Shinobu and Giyuu are a couple based on how they interact.
