Later on in Season 10, more than six years after Rick’s disappearance, Michonne learns that Rick survived the explosion and sets out to find him. She shares this information with their daughter, Judith, who keeps it a secret from Daryl and others, fearing they might leave to search for Rick and leave her and her brother, RJ, behind. Judith eventually reveals the truth in the series finale.
In The Walking Dead spinoff series, World Beyond, it is revealed that Jadis used Rick as leverage to gain entry into a new community where she rises to a high-ranking military position.
Is Rick Coming Back to The Walking Dead?
The iconic character, Rick Grimes, makes his long-awaited return to The Walking Dead in the series finale in Season 11 titled “Rest in Peace.” After being absent for two and a half seasons, he appears in a tag scene that sets up the upcoming spinoff featuring him and Michonne.
The scene shows Rick seemingly on the run from the Civic Republic Military, who took him away in Season 9. A CRM helicopter confronts him, referring to him as “Prisoner Grimes,” but Rick surrenders with a sinister smile.
Meanwhile, Michonne appears in the same episode, sporting new and impressive armor as she rides a horse into a group of walkers, determined to continue her search for Rick.
The upcoming spinoff, will feature Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira reprising their iconic roles of Rick and Michonne respectively. The series is created by Danai Gurira and Scott M. Gimple, who is also the showrunner.
Initially planned as a Rick Grimes-led movie trilogy, the project was reworked by AMC into a limited six-episode drama. The Rick and Michonne series is set to debut in 2024 and will follow the epic love story of the two characters as they reunite after Rick’s long absence.
