Who Does Naruto Marry and Who Else Married Who In the Manga Series?

For our protagonist, Naruto Uzumaki, we witnessed his journey as an outcast with few friends who nurtured a one-sided crush on Sakura, but at the conclusion of Naruto Shippuden, we see he winds up marrying Hinata Hyuga, and together they have two kids, Boruto and Himawari.

While Naruto is mostly a series about ninjas and their power struggles, it is refreshing to see the characters live an ordinary life, making room for romance even though the relationships, in most cases, were a bit rushed towards the end of the series. There have been a few distinct love interests throughout the series, and at the conclusion, we see most of the cast go on to start their own family.

Of the other characters in the series, Sasuke ended up marrying Sakura, Shikamaru married Temari, Sai married Ino, Chouji married Karui, Kiba Inuzuka is believed to be married to Tamaki. Asuma is assumed to have married Kurenai. On the other hand, Rock Lee’s marital life has left fans pondering as the series did not confirm his marriage to anyone.

Regardless, all these mentioned characters in the Naruto series have remained married and even had kids. Below is a breakdown and timeline of all these relationships.

Who Did Naruto Marry?

At the end of Naruto Shippuden, the show’s protagonist Naruto marries Hinata Hyuga, a former heiress of the respected Hyuga bloodline and a member of Team 8. Hinata is the oldest daughter of the Hiashi Hyuga, the head of the Hyuga clan. She was raised to be the clan’s heiress, but after being deemed unsuitable for the role by her father based on her timid personality and strength, she lost the position to her younger sister, Hanabi.

  • Full name: Hinata Hyuga
  • Nickname: Lady Hinata, Byakugun Princess
  • Hinata Hyuga’s Children: Himaari Uzumaki, Boruto Uzuwaki, and Kawaki

Naruto Met Hinata at Konoha’s Academy

Hinata started developing an interest in the main protagonist, Naruto, when they first met on the day of her enrollment in Konoha’s academy when she was picked on by three bullies because of her unusual eyes. Saving her from the situation was our protagonist, Naruto, who came to her defense despite being outnumbered.

Although the fight did not end in Naruto’s favor since he was outnumbered and ended up unconscious, it did set the pace for the admiration Hinata developed for him. Since then, Hinata started watching Naruto, witnessing his struggle and perseverance to become the Hokage even though everyone calls him a weakling.

Inspired and motivated by Naruto, Hinata found an example to follow, and from then on, she trained hard to become one of the strongest Kunoichi in the Hidden Leaf village with the great power of Byakugun, a Dojutsu that allows a user to see 360 degrees and also the chakra points.

Throughout the series, we see how Naruto’s persevering influence transformed Hinata from a shy, weak and timid girl to a much more powerful and courageous ninja who dared to come out of her shell and eventually slap some sense into Naruto.

During a fight between Naruto and Pain, Hinata shows courage and duels him one-on-one to save Naruto from pain. She also played an important role during the 4th Ninja War when she slapped some sense into Naruto when he needed it the most and showed courage to save Naruto from Madara and Obito.

What Episode Does Naruto Ask Hinata to Marry Him?

There wasn’t a particular episode where Naruto proposed to Hinata in the anime, but in “The Last: Naruto the movie,” we got to witness their romantic relationship, how they first met, how their feelings grew and how it eventually led to marriage.

After the Great Shinobi War, the pair finally had time to process and confess their emotions for one another. In The Last: Naruto the movie, after taking a break from searching for Hanabi, who was kidnapped, Hinata sneaks away to continue knitting the scarf, which is ruined multiple times somewhere in the woods. Unknown to her, Naruto was following her.

As Hinata laments about how she’s a horrible sister because all she can do is knit, Naruto consoles her by saying she’s been doing a good job because she has come all the way to save Hanabi. While comforting her, Naruto confesses to Hinata that he loves her. Post confession, we witness how Naruto and Hinata share a picture-worthy kiss while floating in the sky in front of the moon.

After Naruto confirms their feelings for each other by stating he wants to spend the rest of his life with her, they run out of a cave while going through memories from childhood to adulthood. Before Naruto’s confession, Hinata had expressed her love in episode 166 of Naruto: Shippuden, titled “Confession.”

In the episode, we see Hinata confessing her feelings to Naruto when she willingly faces pain in an attempt to protect Naruto. The episode was a tear-jerking one as we get to see Hinata in her full form defending her love and confidently confessing her love for Naruto despite being wildly out of the league to Pain.

What Episode Does Naruto Marry Hinata?

Naruto and Hinata married at the end of Shippuden in Naruto Shippuden: Episode 500. They got married when Naruto was 19 years of age and Hinata was 18 years of age. The Final arc of the series, “Konoha Hiden: The Perfect Day for a Wedding,” is the episode where Naruto eventually walks down the aisle with Hinata and begins a family of his own.

This episode is emotional as we were flooded with different emotions, from seeing our main protagonist asking Iruka Sensei to attend the wedding ceremony as his father to Hinata reminiscing about her cousin Neji while Naruto was looking at his father’s face at the Hokage Rock. And of course, one of the highlights of the episode is seeing Hinata getting along with her sister and father.

They also graced the occasion and were overwhelmed with emotion about giving his daughter’s hand out in marriage. After taking Hinata’s hand and asking if she is ready, the two get married and open another chapter in their lives which includes their children, Boruto and Himawari Uzumaki.

Why Did Naruto Marry Hinata?

Hinata turned out to be the one true love of Naruto, so the duo ended up getting married. This is even though Naruto had a huge crush on fellow Team 7 member Sakura Haruno at the beginning of the show. For most of the series, however, the feelings were one-sided, as Naruto was shown to be the one that had a crush on Sakura.

Naruto’s relationship with Sakura remained that of a close friendship as our protagonist marries Hinata after Naruto Shippuden. The most obvious answer to the question about why Naruto ended up marrying Hinata is that the makers intended for the two characters to end up together right from the beginning of the series.

This is confirmed by the creator of Naruto, Masashi Kishimoto, who stated that Hinata and Naruto were meant to be, as Hinata acknowledged Naruto’s worth even before even Iruka Umino did. The romantic relationship between Naruto and Hinata has been built upon since the beginning of the series.

We witnessed Hinata’s admiration for Naruto and how it helped lay a foundation for her character development in the later part of the series. Hinata supported and defended Naruto throughout the series, even slapping some sense into him when he considered giving up in the Fourth Great Ninja War after Neji sacrificed his life to save her and Naruto.

Naruto and Hinta are linked to each other through the red strings of fate that tie them together. The Red Thread in the Series is said to link two souls who are meant for each other. In the Last: Naruto The Movie, we saw how Naruto and Hinata met during their childhood, the developments of their relationship, and the effects of the red strings.

Naruto, who spent most of his childhood oblivious to Hinata’s feelings for him, eventually recognizes her affection thanks to a Genjutsu that tangled Hinata and Naruto in each other’s memories. Naruto sees himself through Hinata’s eyes, realizing how much she cares for him. The experience opens his eyes to how much he has also grown to care for her.

Lastly, both of them had a complicated childhood. Their shared childhood trauma may have established their understanding of each other. Although the events in their lives were different, they both share a common ground which is their troubled childhood. While many feared and shunned Naruto for the nine-tailed beast that was sealed inside him, Hinata admired him for his persistence and courage.

Who Married Who in Naruto?

Naruto and Hinata are not the only characters to get married in the series. Towards the end of Naruto: Shippuden, some of the characters in the series opened another chapter in their lives by getting married and having children.

Below is a list of the other characters who married in Naruto and their partners. They include Sasuke marrying Sakura, Shikamaru marrying Temari, Chouji marrying Karui, Ino marrying Sai, and Kurenai marrying Asuma. Rock Lee’s presumed marriage is also discussed.

Who Does Sai Marry in Naruto?

Sai, the Anu chief of Konohagakure’s Yamanaka clan, married Ino, a Kunoichi of Konohagakure’s Yamanaka clan. Sai was introduced as a character with no emotions and feelings, but this did not faze Ino, who immediately developed a crush on him because he was handsome, noting that he resembles Sasuke.

Meanwhile, Sai being the emotionless guy he is, thought Ino was ugly in their initial meeting. Still, interestingly he called her the opposite of what he thought about her “Mrs. Beautiful.” When stuck in the Infinite Tsukuyomi, both Ino and Sai had each other in their Infinite Tsukuyomi dreams.

Ino dreamed of Sasuke and Sai fighting over her, while Sai dreamed of Ino, with his other close friends acknowledging his smile as beautiful. By this time, the pair had already developed strong feelings for each other as Ino did not choose Sasuke over Sai in her dream, and Sai liked Ino complimenting him. Following the Fourth War arc, they begin to bond and eventually fall in love.

The pair attended Naruto and Hinata’s wedding as a couple and were seen holding hands. Above anything else, this proves that by the end of Naruto Shippuden, they were already dating. Sai and Ino eventually got married and had a son named Inojin Yamanaka, who resembles his father and has the same hair color as his mother.

Who Does Rock Lee Marry in Naruto?

Rock Lee, a shinobi of Konohagakure’s Lee clan and a member of Team Guy, has a son named Metal Lee in the Boruto series. Information about his wife and the mother of his child is still cloaked in mystery. This has led to many speculations about who the mother of Metal Lee is since the series did not confirm Rock Lee’s marriage to anyone.

One of the most popular theories is that Tenten is Metal Lee’s mother because of her somewhat similar eyes and the fact that she is the only female close to Lee. Tenten was Lee’s teammate; they both belonged to Team Guy and went on several missions together.

Another premise that suggests that Tenten might be Lee’s wife came at the end credits in Buruto: Naruto The Movie, where several couples are seen standing next to each other. Lee and Tenten were present, with Metal Lee in the middle. Moreover, Metal Lee’s skills appear to be a mix of Lee’s and Tenten’s abilities.

Another theory is that Rock Lee winds up marrying Azami, Master Chen’s granddaughter. However, there is no evidence in the series to confirm these theories, as the creator purposely left us hanging.

Who Does Ino Marry in Naruto?

Ino married Sai, the Anbu chief of Konoha. She first met Sai when he was visiting the hospital, and she immediately found him attractive, noting that he resembles her childhood crush, Sasuke.

Like most girls in the academy, Ino had a crush on Sasuke but eventually gave up her crush to pursue Sai, who she later married. In the Blank period, Ino’s relationship with Sai progresses, with Ino risking her life to save Sai, saving him from the Genjutsu.

At that point, the pair fell deeply in love with each other, and we would later see them holding hands at Naruto and Hinata’s wedding. Although their marriage ceremony was not shown in the anime, according to the Naruto Retsuden Novel, they both had a beautiful ceremony where both Choji and Shikamaru cried out of happiness and wished their sensei, Asuma, was there to witness the moment.

After marriage, Ino takes the Yamanaka name, and together the pair run a Yamanaka Flower shop with their son Inojin, who is also a part of the new Ino-Shika-Cho formation.

Who Does Choji Marry in Naruto?

After the Fourth Great Ninja War, Choji Akimichi, a member of the Akimichi clan, married Karui, a kunoichi from Kumogakure and a member of Team Samui from the Hidden Clouds Village.

Choji Akimichi’s marriage to Karui was a shock to fans of the Anime series as these two had not shared any moments throughout the show but were later shown as a married couple. They further had a daughter named Choco Akimichi during the Boruto series. The only scene they appear together in the anime is in The Last: Naruto The Movie, where they are walking together around the town.

During the Blank Period arc after the end of the Fourth Shinobi War, in the Sakura Hiden: Thoughts of Love, Riding Upon a Spring Breeze, Ino tells shocked Sakura that Choji is making excuses to travel to Kumogakure so that he can meet Karui. Also, in Sasuke Shinden: Book of Sunrise, in which Kumogakure investigates the disappearance of their shinobi, Karui keeps in contact with Choji and informs him of what’s going on.

Karui, who emigrated to the Hidden Leaf Village to become a member of the Akimichi clan after her marriage to Choji, revealed to her daughter in Boruto that Choji’s kindness and good qualities attracted her to him. The couple lives a perfectly normal life in the Boruto series; however, they struggle to teach their daughter her bloodline techniques.

Who Does Sasuke Uchiha Marry in Naruto?

Sasuke Uchiha ended up marrying fellow team 7 member Sakura Haruno at the conclusion of Naruto: Shippuden. Although we did not get to witness their special moment, a picture was shown in Episode 21 of Boruto to confirm that the pair got married.

From the beginning of the series, Sakura was enamored with Sasuke. She was over the moon when they were both selected as members of team 7. However, Sasuke didn’t reciprocate these feelings for the most part of the series as his mind was clouded by other persistent issues like revenge. As a result, he did not pay much attention to Sakura.

While Sasuke had always been distant, he did develop a soft spot for Sakura in his heart and showed it on rare occasions. One such occasion was when he told Naruto to do everything to protect Sakura from Gaara and expressed jealousy when Sakura smiled at Naruto for saving her at one point. On another occasion, Sasuke saved Sakura as she was about to collapse during the fight against Kaguya.

Towards the end of the series and before leaving for his journey of redemption, Sasuke refuses to let Sakura join him but expresses an interest in starting a relationship with her by tapping her on the forehead and promising to see her again when he returns. They did meet again after Sasuke arrived from his first trip and agreed to let Sakura join him.

During their time together, the pair get married, and Sakura becomes pregnant with Sarada Uchiha, who’s got the Sharingan from her father and brute strength from her mother. The couple lived together as a normal family for a couple of years before Sasuke left home for an important mission that would take him away from his family for years.

Who Does Shikamaru Nara Marry?

Shikamaru Nara, a shinobi of Konohagakure’s Nara clan, ended up marrying Temari, a Kunoichi of Sunagakure’s Kazekage clan. The coupling of these characters did not surprise fans as the pair spent a lot of time together throughout the anime, and they displayed their romantic feelings for each other on several occasions.

Initially, the pair weren’t on good terms. Temari’s first opinion about Shikamaru was that he was an annoying jerk, and she played a part in the surprise attack on Konoha. Shikamaru, on the other hand, finds Temari about as frustrating as he finds his mother. As the series progresses, their opinion of each other change and they eventually get to know each other better.

Although fans did not get to witness their wedding ceremony, they were part of the highlight in The Last: Naruto the Movie, when they attended Naruto’s wedding with Hinata as a couple. Eventually, the couple married, and Temari moved to Konohagakure, where she worked as a kunoichi for the village. Shikamaru Nara and Temari have a son named Shikadai Nara, who is very much like his father and mother in appearance and attitude.

Did Asuma Marry Kurenai?

It is widely believed that Asuma and Kurenai got married in Naruto. The fact that the pair also have a daughter is all that you need to believe this. However, no proof exists that a wedding happened since Asuma suddenly died.

Asuma and Kurenai had a deep affection for one another throughout the series, which was evident for all to see. There were one of the most loved couples by fans. This made Asuma’s death unbearable for everyone, especially Kurenai and her look-alike daughter Mirai Sarutobi.

Are Kiba Inuzuka and Tamaki Married?

Another couple that many believe are married, even though there is no proof of a wedding ever taking place in the anime, is Kiba Inuzuka and Tamaki. While the official status of their relationship is in question, there is no doubt that the pair are together despite the occasional cat and dog arguments and the one time Kiba was awestruck by a girl he met on a mission.
