Who Is Baki’s Dad Yujiro Hanma and How Strong Is He?

Yujiro Hanma is one of the most powerful characters in Baki the Grappler and the father of the protagonist, Baki Hanma. Known for his monstrous strength, which exceeds that of an entire nation’s modern military, he was dubbed the “strongest on earth.” He is the primary antagonist of the entire Baki franchise and is feared by almost the entire fighters in the franchise.

Yujiro is a cold-blooded killer with demonic-looking features and a demon back that is just as evil as his bloodlust for killing his opponents. “The Ogre,” as he is also dubbed, is always in search of a new challenge as he goes all over the world fighting humans, animals, and beasts.

Baki’s Dad, Yujiro Hanma, is the Strongest Character on Baki the Grappler

Baki the Grappler is one of the most popular anime series in recent years, with its wide range of phenomenal characters that are extremely skilled in martial arts. These characters are driven by only one goal: to be recognized as the strongest human on the face of the earth.

While every one of these characters struggles to accomplish their goal, Yujiro Hanma has reached such an enormous level of power, earning him the nicknames – “The Mighty One,” “Strongest Creature on Earth,” or “The Ogre,” a fitting title for a cold-blooded mercenary who kills without fear but with pleasure. He made his first appearance in the series during a duel between Baki and Hanayama in the Gripper, the seventh episode of Baki the Grappler in the Childhood Saga.

How Old is Yujiro Hanma?

Yujiro Hanma, the strongest creature in the world and the father of the protagonist, is most likely to be around the age of 37. This age remains speculative as there is yet to be an official answer about how old he is, with different online sources providing different ages. However, the one which is most likely is 37 years.

The mystery and confusion surrounding Yujiro Hanma’s age sterms from the inconsistencies in the manga. A chapter in the Manga stated that Yujiro fought boxing champion Muhammad Alai Sr. 30 years ago in Japan, which would make him over 50 years of age. But if his age is 37 years of age, he would have fought Muhammad Alai Sr. 20 years ago.

The anime, on the other hand, presents us with a teenage Yujiro who, at the young age of 16, wiped out a whole wave of American soldiers during the Vietnam War in 1973. It was at the age of 16 that he raped Diane Neil, who later conceived Jack Hanma. The anime also shows that he fathered another son, Baki Hanma, who was born in 1976, at the age of 19 years.

Although Yujiro Hanma’s exact birth date and age remain a mystery, it is known that he was born in April, which many people believe is one of the many reasons he is very powerful because many of the strongest fighters in history were also born in the month of April.

Despite the vagueness surrounding his age, Yujiro Hanma’s power does not wither as he grows older. With each passing year, his power continues to grow stronger, and his strength only increases. He effortlessly defeated his teenage son during their battle in the Childhood Saga, and also compared to Baki, he was able to leave the battlefield with minimal injuries during his second and final battle.

How Tall is Yujiro Hanma?

Yujiro Hanma is a well-built man with an impressive height of about 6 feet 3 inches (1.90m / 190cm) and a weight of about 265 pounds (120kg / 190cm). His overall appearance is quite similar to that of an ogre or lion, which seems to be the intention of Keisuke Itagaki.

Yujiro towers over most characters in the anime, including his son Baki who is only 5 feet 3 inches, and his father, Yuichiro Hanma, who stands at 5 feet 11 inches. But when compared to Pickle, the tallest character in the anime, standing at over 8 feet tall and weighing over 441 pounds, Yujiro’s height and weight aren’t especially outlandish.

Though he isn’t the tallest and the most muscular of the characters in the anime, Yujiro has a more impressive frame with an athletic body, vast shoulders, and a ripped chest area. Most importantly, he has performed ridiculous feats with his well-trained body and has remained undefeated throughout the series.

The ogre is known for his thick black eyebrows, red wavy hair, and red eyes, which changed to brown in Baki the Grappler 2018 and 2020 anime series. Unlike strong fighters like Pickle and Yuichirou, Yujiro has an exceptionally thick neck, and his legs are also extensionally long. In a serious fight, his back muscles take the shape of a demon face, also known as “Demon Back” in Baki-the Grappler.

As regards his fashion sense, Yujiro Hanma often wears his signature dark red shirt and pants in the anime series, whereas he wears a black shirt and pants in the manga series. In the third season of the animation, he was shown wearing a black shirt and pants and always adorned in Chinese-style shoes.

Who is Yujiro Hanma’s Dad?

Yuichiro Hanma is the father of Yujiro Hanma. This makes him the grandfather of the protagonist, Baki Hanma, and his half-brother Jack Hanma. He is considered extremely strong and the only fighter Yujiro could not defeat. Yuichiro is also the only other person, besides his son, who singlehandedly defeated over 2,000 United States Soldiers in his homeland of Okinawa during World War II.

Though not much is known about Yujiro’s father, it was stated by Mitsunari Tokugawa, that he is the complete opposite of his son, Yujiro. This is because he was not as obsessed with becoming the strongest and the most dominant fighter in the world. He just was the strongest without the sadistic cruelty his son possesses. This is shown when he supports his grandson in his fight against Yujiro, igniting the latter’s anger.

Compared to his son, Yuichiro also seems to be a carefree and calm character, which may be one of the reasons why Yujiro is strict towards Baki since he reminds Yujiro of his own father. While Yuichiro can be kind and carefree at times, he can also be ruthless when the situation calls for it, this is shown during the battle of Okinawa when he fought to defend his home from being invaded by the Americans. He brutally beat the American soldiers, twisting their necks and breaking their bones.

How Strong is Yujiro Hanma?

Yujiro Hanma is the strongest character in the series because of his strength comparable to a nation’s contemporary army or even greater. His monstrous strength and ability have been evident since he was 16 years old.

Baki’s dad has the ability to instantly learn and master any skill perfectly upon seeing them for the first time. He is known to have mastered all forms of unarmed combat at the age of 16. He is an expert in karate, boxing, taekwondo, jujutsu, wrestling, and start-fighting as well as more esoteric arts such as Udonde art.

At the young age of 16, Yujiro was able to single-handedly wipe out the entire United States military forces during the Vietnam War. The anime also shows a time when the young Yujiro fought on the battlefields against the Green Berets, the SEALs, and the Delta Forces. The Ogre was shown to easily annihilate a giant dinosaur-sized elephant that high-caliber armored weapons and even a tank failed to kill.

Besides wiping out an entire army and taking down a giant-sized elephant, Yujiro has pulled off some other amazing feats of strength which include; pushing back 100 riot police, smashing a piece of coal to dust, tapping craters in a concrete wall, stopping the tectonic activity of an earthquake by punching the ground as seen in the childhood saga during his first battle with his son Baki.

With a physique similar to a lion, Yujiro’s hits have been compared to that of a nuclear weapon. Armies have used their weapons to stop him but have remained unsuccessful. His finger flicks carry immense strength such that they can defeat his opponent, as shown in his short fight with Chamoan; he also used his finger flick on Muhammad Alai Jr.

Yujiro’s body muscles are immensely powerful and durable such that he is capable of doing things like breaking katanas and knives just by gripping them, walking through walls of bulletproof glass, and shaking an entire building by merely tensing his muscles. When he flexes his latissimus dorsi muscles, his back takes the shape of a demon’s face which enhances his strength and combat skills.

His body is tough enough to withstand bullets, fire, lightning strikes, blades, diseases of any kind, cannonballs, and even missiles with none of these being able to penetrate his skin or injure him. For each person he defeats, Yujiro grows stronger. He is also very fast and is shown to move like he is teleporting. With his speed, he can easily outfox any character in the series. He can also easily catch a 45lbs arrow that required 200kgs of force to successfully project. He caught it before it could leave the bowstrings from 9 feet away.

Yujiro can also strike with enough velocity that can break the sound barrier and rip through the air causing extremely intense gusts of wind. He is extremely durable, capable of taking a full power strike from anything or anyone on the face of Earth without being injured or even flinching. He is also shown effortlessly dropping out of the top of a 50-story skyscraper.

Throughout the series, Yujior Hanma managed to escape any serious injury during fights. The only exception was when he was fighting Kaiou Kaku, who was using the power of his own punches against him, and Musashi Miyamoto, who managed to leave a shallow cut on his neck. His son Baki was also able to inflict on him minimal injury, thanks to his demon back.

Why is Yujiro Hanma So Strong?

Yujiro Hanma’s strength is partly due to his genetics and his extraordinary intelligence and learning ability. The theory of him genetically inheriting his strength is reinforced when Yujiro’s father and Baki’s grandfather, Yuichiro Hanma, are introduced in the anime.

Despite Yuichiro’s old age, the 70-year-old man’s physique surpasses the body structure of most young fighters, and he is recognized for having single-handedly defeated about 2000 soldiers with a single technique during World War II. Yuichiro’s ability and strength as well as that of Baki and Jack Hanma, proves that the Hanma family is gifted with extraordinary combat skills passed down through generations.

For Instance, the Demon Back, which enhances Yujiro’s strength, is in the Hanma bloodline and can only be accessed by members of the Hanma bloodline. The demon back refers to the fact that the Hanma bloodline’s strength comes from demon blood, giving them incredible power and speed to take on even the strongest opponents.

Besides his genetics, Yujiro is a fighter who trains his body to its absolute peak. Since 16, he has trained on the battlefields using his bare hands to destroy a whole army. His extraordinary ability to learn and master any skill perfectly upon seeing them for the first time and modifying them to suit him helped him achieve his status as the “strongest creature on Earth.” In addition, his intelligence and vast knowledge of combat and human body function also contributed to his growth as a fighter.

When Does Baki Fight His Dad?

Baki Hanma fought with his father, Yujiro, in the Childhood Saga and the strongest father and child quarrel saga. The two characters are inarguably the strongest characters in Baki – The Grappler, and a fight between these two power-packed individuals makes for some exciting roller-coaster battle scenes.

The series explores Baki’s journey and how his dream changed from following his father’s footsteps to surpassing his father and avenging his mother, Emi Akezawa, who was murdered by Yujiro.

The first fight between Baki and his father happened during the first arc of the series, which was the childhood saga arc. In the Childhood Saga, shortly before the great match between Baki and Yujiro, Emi visits Yujiro at the hotel, but she is dismissed by him as he expresses his disappointment at the way she raised Baki.

On the day of the big match, Yujiro arrives by helicopter at the duel scene accompanied by a wounded Gaia, who bends down in respect for the Ogre. The match between father and son begins with an unexpected earthquake which Yujiro stops by hitting the ground, surprising everyone with his incredible power and strength.

Baki, on the other hand, tries not to show concern at his father’s unusual show of strength and attacks his father. Baki does his very best in the match by trying everything possible to overpower his father but cannot make any serious impact on him.

Despite Baki’s inability to suppress him, Yujiro is proud of his son’s fighting skills, and he happily announces to Emi that he will “eat a delicious dish.” At some point during the fight, Yujiro begins to brutally attack his son, knocking him out and almost killing him, but he is stopped by Emi, who decides to protect her son for the first time. Emi defends her son by bravely punching Yujiro in the face and preventing him from hurting her son further.

Yujiro is surprised at Emi’s display of motherly affection, so he hugs her before breaking her spine. After killing Emi, Yujirou goes crazy, knocking out all the people who came to witness the fight. Although Baki lost the first match to his father, he continuously trained to improve himself until he realized he was ready to fight with his father again in the Godlike Clash of the Kids Saga.

After defeating Muhammad Alai Jr., Baki challenges his father to a final battle declaring that he does not want to be the strongest man anymore but wants to overpower his father and avenge his mother’s death. In the Strongest father and Child Quarrel Saga, at the beginning of the final battle between Baki and Yujiro, Baki asks Yujiro why he killed Emi. Baki then awakens his demon face on his brain but despite attacking Yujiro several times and startling him with the powerful cockroach Dash technique, the fight appears to be in Yujiro’s favor.

The Ogre takes several breaks to give Baki time to recover and offers him fighting advice. Towards the end of the fight, Yujiro still remains in good shape while Baki is badly injured, causing him to pass out. Even while he is down, Baki manages to land hits with his fighting spirit. It is at this point that Yujiro recognizes him as his son and the only opponent who can put up a real fight.

Although Baki might have won the fight, he could not defeat his father. After the fight, Yujiro declares Baki the strongest man on earth, but Baki gives Yujiro the victory because The Ogre could withstand the attacks and might have easily overpowered him. This is shown by the fact that Baki was struggling to hold himself together while Yujiro only sustained little injuries, and there were situations during the fight where Yujiro gave Baki a chance to execute certain moves and techniques. In the end, Yujiro liberated himself from his title as the strongest creature on earth and Baki announced his defeat.

Is Yujiro Hanma Evil?

Yujiro Hanma, the strongest creature on Earth, is an evil man. He is quite a madman, with his monstrous strength that drives his bloodlust for killing and his thirst for other inhuman acts. He is capable of killing for sadistic pleasure without any remorse. He is also known for being an amoral maniac capable of performing the darkest acts. For instance, he rapes Diane Neil, who later bears his child Jack.

At 16, Yujiro brutally wiped out the entire American army during the Vietnam War. He was seen slaughtering waves of soldiers and often bending their guns in a sadistic display of might before killing them. His ruthlessness is seen when he rips Kaiou Ryuu’s face off and slams his skinless face onto the stone floor. He displayed another act of ruthlessness when he killed the mother of his son, Emi Akezawa, by rupturing her eardrums and breaking her spine.

Yujiro is no less of an evil man when it comes to even his children. He shows no mercy towards anybody, even his own children, as he thinks being merciful is an act of weakness. He neglected his son, Baki, from a young age and despises his body and attachment to such ideas as mercy and friendship to be weak. Although he encourages his son’s progression as a fighter, he uses unhealthy means to accelerate that progression. This is witnessed during their first fight in the Childhood Saga. He almost killed an unconscious Baki despite knowing that the latter is already down.

Yujiro cares little about his children, and his view of fatherhood is psychopathic. In a conversation with Muhammad Alai, it was revealed that Yujiro is obsessed with competition, and he goes all over the world impregnating women to somehow create future opponents. The Ogre views his children as a tool for challenging his ability and strength and goes around the world, multiplying his offspring, only to abandon and neglect them if he deems them unworthy.
