The Accountant 2 Release Date, When Is It Happening?

Although The Accountant 2 has been green-lit, there is no release date yet for it as production has yet to commence 7 years after the premiere and success of the first film.

Directed by Gavin O’Connor and starring Ben Affleck, The Accountant tells the story of a high-functioning autistic man who straddles a fine line as a hitman as well as an intelligent accountant to illicit organizations, with deadly results in the aftermath. The Accountant was a massive hit with audiences when it was released, and while they continue to reminisce over the first film, they also yearn for a promised second which is yet to materialize.

Will There Be The Accountant 2, and When Will It Be Released?

The Accountant 2 was given the green light in June 2017, about seven months after the first film was released. In their official statement, Warner Bros made it known that they were in talks with Ben Affleck to return. They also said that similar discussions had been held with the film’s producers – Lynette Howell Taylor and Mark Williams, the director – Gavin O’Connor, and scriptwriter – Bill Dubuque.

The Accountant was a massive success when it was released in October 2016. It grossed $155.2 million on a budget of $44 million. It also didn’t perform too badly with the critics, with one dubbing it as a film whose body count will make John Wick say woah. Due to all these achievements, Warner Bros approved a sequel to The Accountant.

Given that The Accountant 2 has been approved, there will definitely be a second installment of the hit 2016 film. However, one cannot say when it will be released. Despite the approval several years ago, production is yet to start. There is also nothing to show that the film is even in development.

Ben Affleck is Quite Ready To Do The Accountant 2

Back in 2020, lead star Ben Affleck revealed that there have been talks about making The Accountant 2 and possibly a TV series adaptation. He, however, made it known that the scriptwriter had moved on to other projects and was quite busy. Basically, there is no script yet for The Accountant 2, and it is a bit of a difficult situation as the story is unique, and the makers cannot just go out there, buy any script and refit it.

All hope is not lost, though. In September 2021, director – Gavin revealed that they had closed a deal to make The Accountant 2 and even stated that he had plans for a third film. He also revealed that the second film will focus not only on Affleck’s character Christian Wolff but also on his younger brother, Braxton, who is equally badass.

Ben Affleck has also made it known that he is quite willing to work on a second The Accountant film as he loved the story and the twist that it gave to the thriller genre. He has also not hidden the fact that he relishes working with Gavin. So, The Accountant 2 is definitely in the works and could be released anytime in the mid-2020s.

Where Will The Accountant 2 Be Streaming or Playing?

Although the movie industry has been taken over by streaming platforms in recent years, major film distributors such as Warner Bros, the company behind The Accountant, still prefer to give their blockbuster movies a theatrical release before making them available online.

There is, therefore, every chance that The Accountant 2 will play in the theaters whenever it is first released. After some months, fans can also catch The Accountant 2 on streaming platforms such as HBO Max. Warner Bros is the owner of the company, and they make their biggest titles available there.

What Happened at The Accountant Movie Ending?

At the end of The Accountant, the identity of the woman who is Wolff’s work partner and his contact with clients is revealed as Justine, the daughter of the director of a treatment center where Wolff was to be sent as a child.

Is The Movie, The Accountant Based on a Book?

The 2016 movie, The Accountant is not based on a book but rather a script written by Bill Dubuque. The plot was quite unique, described as a clever but unusual crime thriller in some quarters, and it is the uniqueness of Dubuque’s story that attracted Affleck to the project.

The actor has previously revealed that normally when he gets sent scripts, he can usually tell what will happen by page 15. However, it was a different ballgame with The Accountant, and he knew that he had to work in the film.
