Sonic 3 will be coming out in December 2024, following an official confirmation. Among the cast of Sonic 3 are James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally, Lee Majdoub, and Tom Butler. The voice cast members will include Ben Schwartz, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, and Idris Elba, among others.

The movie is coming as the third installment in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, which was first released in 2020, with a sequel released two years later in 2022. The third installment is directed by Jeff Fowler. Here is all you need to know about the release of the movie:

Will There Be A Sonic 3 Movie?

Yes, there will be a Sonic the Hedgehog 3. It was in February 2022 that it was announced that Sega Sammy Group and Paramount Pictures are already working on the third installment of the 2020 film and the 2022 follow-up. Following its official announcement, more details were later provided on the filming, even though other details were kept away.

The first film in the franchise came following the two-part Japanese animation film Sonic the Hedgehog, which was released in 1996. The 2020 film was greeted by a huge success, opening doors for its second release and then the third. From a budget of between $85 to 90 million, Sonic (2020) made over $319 million at the box office, while the second registered over $405 million from a budget of between $90 to 110 million.

When Does Sonic 3 Come Out?

As indicated, the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will be coming out in December 2024. This release date is for the United States when it will be made available in the theatres by Paramount Pictures.

Sonic 3 will be released in France on December 18, 2024, and then a day later, it will be made available for fans in Australia, Germany, and Portugal. Fans in the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada will have to wait until December 2024 to have a feel for the film.

It is after the release in cinema that the film will finally be made available for streaming on selected streaming platforms.

The Cast of Sonic the Hedgehog 3

While there have been little updates on Sonic 3’s cast members, there hasn’t been much information on those returning and those who may be joining. However, if you have followed the film from the 2020 release, you can guess that there are some stars that would make the cut as returning cast members.

Ben Schwartz has voiced Sonic the Hedgehog for the first two installments, so we are sure to have him back for the third round. Colleen O’Shaughnessey is another person who will be back to voice Miles “Tails” Prower, something she did for the 2020 and 2022 releases. The next you will expect back is Idris Elba to voice Knuckles.

For the live-action actors, James Marsden will continue with his role of Tom Wachowski, and there is nothing to suggest his wife in the film, played by Tika Sumpter, will be left out. Natasha Rothwell is expected to be back to play Rachel, while Adam Pally will continue as Wade Whipple. Lee Majdoub will likely return as Agent Stone, and then Tom Butler will come as Commander Walters.

Jim Carrey is one person who may not make the cut. The reason is that the actor revealed that he was seriously considering retiring from acting. Because of this, the producers have made it clear that the role of Dr. Robotnik may not be recast. Even if the celebrated actor decides not to retire, it may still be difficult for him to return to the film since all plans and activities are most likely made without him.

Apart from these, it remains unknown for now who may join the film’s cast in the third part.

Sonic 3 Trailer

For now, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 trailer is yet to be released. More so, we may not see a trailer any time soon as filming for the movie only started on August 31, 2023, in London, England.

Judging by the fact that trailers for the previous Sonic films did not drop until a few months before its release, our guess is that it may take until the third or fourth quarter of 2024 before the release of a trailer for Sonic 3. What this means is that the trailer may drop between three to five months before the release of the film.

Where To Watch Sonic 2

Paramount Plus is one of the most reliable places for you to watch Sonic 2. However, there are also many other places where you can watch Sonic the Hedgehog 2. It is available in different formats, including 4K, HD, and SD. It is also available for streaming, renting, or even buying if that’s what you want.

It can be streamed on Fubo TV, Prime Video, Paramount Plus, and MGM Plus. For renting or buying, you can access it on platforms including Microsoft, Amazon, Google Play, Vudu, Redbox, Direct TV, Spectrum, and Apple TV.

If you want to watch it on Netflix, that may only be possible if you are in either Canada or Japan. As of September 2023, those are the only countries from which one can access the movie on Netflix.

It is important to understand that if you want to go back and start watching from the first release, you will most likely find the first film on all or most of the listed platforms. Nonetheless, the level of access on all the platforms may still vary depending on one’s location as a result of geo-blocking.

Where Will Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Movie be Streaming?

The places where Sonic 3 can be streamed have not been made known officially, but we can still make some guesses. One of the things we are expecting is that the film will be made available for streaming, renting, or buying, as the case may be, on a majority of the platforms listed above.

This is because there is hardly any reason why the producers will decide to take them to other platforms. However, it is still a possibility, depending on the contracts signed.

The access to Sonic 3, on whatever platform, may still depend on one’s geographical location because there are some countries that may not be allowed to access the film on some platforms because of the aforementioned geo-blocking. If you find yourself in such a situation and you have a subscription, you may as well make use of a VPN, which serves to provide security by giving you a virtual location that can be used temporarily. Notably, the use of VPNs is legal almost everywhere in the world.
