Squid Game Season 2 Release Date

Squid Game Season 2 will be released in 2024, according to past statements from the creator, director, and writer of the hit survival drama series, Hwang Dong-hyuk. When Is Squid Game Season 2 Coming Out?

Season 2 of Squid Game will likely come out in 2024, though the exact release date has not been confirmed. One can, however, make intelligent guesses following the developments that have taken place since Season 1 aired on 17 September 2021.

About eight months after Season 1 aired, Netflix confirmed that they will be a Season 2 of Squid Game in a 2022 Twitter announcement. That same month, the show’s creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, stated that fans would see new episodes of Squid Game in 2023 or 2024.

The 2023 date is no longer feasible, though, because as of February 2023, Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed that filming would only start in the summer of the year and that filming would take ten months or more as Season 2 of Squid Game will be bigger in scale.

Filming of Squid Game 2 started in July 2023. Going by the estimated filming time of 10 months or slightly longer, it means that fans will be seeing Squid Game 2 in either the middle or late 2024.

When is Squid Game Season 2 Release Date on Netflix?

When Did Squid Game Come Out?

Squid Game came out on the 17th of September 2021 on Netflix and was made available to audiences worldwide. It is a survival drama about a bunch of cash-strapped and desperate people who are enticed into participating in a series of games for the chance to win a huge amount of money. They, however, discover that the game is a deadly one in which only one contestant will survive at the end of it all.

The premise of Squid Game was simply captivating, and the action lived up to the premise. This led to the success of the show. It has accumulated viewing hours surpassing the two billion hours mark on Netflix. The show and its cast members were also nominated for numerous awards, including Outstanding Drama Series at the Primetime Emmy Awards, and it made history as the first non-English series to achieve such a feat.

Squid Game Season 1 Ending

At the end of Squid Game Season 1, player 456, i.e., Seong Gi-hun, emerged as the winner of the game and pocketed the humongous cash prize. He used the winnings to do some good in the lives of relatives of fellow contestants who died in the course of the game. He also arranged a trip to the U.S. to meet with his daughter and ex-wife.

While at the airport, Seong Gi-hun notices a man who is trying to recruit a desperate fellow into playing the horrible game he survived. He, therefore, picks up the invitation card extended to the fellow and boards the plane. However, Seong Gi-hun does not continue with the journey that he has planned for so long. He rather gets down from the plane, showing that he will stay back in Korea.

The ending of Squid Game Season 1 leaves the door wide open for Seong Gi-hun to return for a second Season. If he had gotten on the plane and left, then it would have been much harder to work him into any Season 2 plotline. Meanwhile, the creator of Squid Game, Hwang Dong-hyuk, has revealed that Season 1 had an alternate ending in which Seong Gi-hun would get on the plane and leave the country and join his daughter in America.

They, however, decided not to go with this ending as it would defeat the message they wanted to pass through the series, which points out the negative side of capitalist societies and how competitive and self-centered they can be.
