Having finished all ten episodes of The Night Agent, many viewers are interested in knowing the way forward. Will there be a season two of The Night Agent, and which of the cast members will reprise their roles?

What is The Night Agent Season 1 About?

The Night Agent season one is based on a novel of the same name by Matthew Quirk. The plot revolves around Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso), a low-level FBI agent who seems to have a boring job manning a phone that never rings in the White House basement. The phone did ring, and with it came a conspiracy about a mole that thrust him into an extraordinary situation.

Peter Sutherland suddenly goes from being an insignificant White House staff to becoming the one who saves many lives. He must embark on a hunt for the mole who has infiltrated the highest levels of the United States government.

In addition to his mission to save the nation, Peter works with ex-CEO Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan) to protect her from assassins who murdered her aunt and uncle.

Is The Night Agent Based on a Real Story?

One of the most impressive political thrillers out there, The Night Agent is a complete fiction based on a novel of the same name by Matthew Quirk. Notwithstanding, some features make the show stand out from the rest of the outlandish political and espionage series we have seen in recent times.

While The Night Agent is based on a fictional novel, there are parts of it that were inspired by true events, as revealed by Matthew Quirk in 2019 during a Q&A with The Real Book Spy. According to the writer, the inspiration to write the story came after his friend who works with the FBI was put on a night duty that shares similar features with what Peter Sutherland is tasked with.

Another thing that gives the story a touch of reality is the fact that Quirk followed the news at the time to get real-life events that could strengthen the conspiracy plot. One of the events that inspired him was the case of Mikhail Lesin, whose dead body was found in a hotel close to where Quirk was residing at the time. Mikhail Lesin was a Russian press minister and a known billionaire before his death.

Quirk also drew inspiration from the notorious conspiracy about Russian involvement in the 2016 US election and the ensuing Mueller Investigation. In all, Quirk brought in a lot of relatable events to the story to give it a touch of reality, even though The Night Agent remains fiction.
