Black Frieza is a powered-up form of Frieza, and in this form, the anime character is possibly the strongest creature in the DragonBall franchise. Frieza is one of the most iconic and consistent antagonists not just in the Dragon Ball franchise but in the entire anime world. He started as a villain and progressed to frenemy status before reverting to his villainous nature.
His role in the series has seen him undergo a series of transformations like Goku and Vegeta but his new black form makes him even more formidable and poses a threat to the protagonists of the series. It makes sense to explore this new black form of Frieza, how strong he is, and how he impacts the series going forward.
Black Frieza is Frieza’s New Form
As earlier stated, Black Frieza is a powered-up form of the anime character Frieza. In this form, Frieza’s lower body, neck, tail, and arms take on a dark color. Other aspects of his appearance like his shin, arm guards, legs, feet, and large parts of his head transform into dark silver.
The rest of his torso, shoulders, and lower face regions retain Frieza’s purple color, a far cry from the golden Frieza, the character’s previous form. Toyotarou’s reasoning for making Frieza’s new form black was based on the fact that the color black was the only color that could be considered above gold in a similar manner that a black credit card is more valuable than a gold credit card.
Frieza’s journey to the black form involved a lot of humble-pie moments. He was born naturally strong, and this prompted an arrogant assumption on his part that he did not need to train much. He was forced to change his perspective on how strong he was after he was defeated by future Trunks.
That defeat forced him to take his physical training, and in the process, he unlocked his Golden Frieza form, a form that made him as strong as Super Saiyan God, and in this form, he defeated Goku and Vegeta. He also conquered several planets just to prove how powerful he was.
Golden Frieza sought to become even more powerful, and in the process of searching for ways to acquire that additional power, he found a hyperbolic time chamber on one of the planets he conquered. Time works differently in this chamber, and by the time Frieza had completed his training here, ten years had passed. It wasn’t for nothing though because he managed to unlock the black Frieza form, making him the most frightening and most powerful being in the universe.
How Strong Is Black Frieza?
Through various story arcs, black Frieza has proven to be one of the strongest characters in existence in the DragonBall series. The only beings who have proven to be possibly more powerful are the gods of destruction and their angels. Black Frieza has proven to be even more powerful than Ultra Ego Vegeta and Ultra Instinct Goku, both of whom have suffered defeats at his hands.
Several factors also indicate that he is also stronger than Granolah and Gas. One of those factors includes Granolah’s wish to be stronger than anyone in the universe, a universe that does not include Frieza who trained outside the universe in the hyperbolic chamber.
It is also worth pointing out the fact that before black Frieza was introduced, Gas was the strongest mortal in Universe 7, easily stronger than Granolah, Goku, and Vegeta. However black Frieza made light work of Gas who gave both Goku and Vegeta a torrid time in their most powerful forms.
Black Frieza Power Level
According to several sources, Black Frieza’s power level is well over 6 quintillion. Frieza’s power level in his normal level was around 50 million multiplied by 227 and continued to grow through his various forms.
Black Frieza’s power level exceeds that of his previous form golden Frieza, a quite powerful form by quite some distance. He also managed to get rid of any flaws, like stamina, his previous form had because of his mastery of the black form. This was acquired because of the length of time he took to develop the black form.
Even before he attained the golden form and subsequently the black form, Frieza was one of the most powerful beings in the universe, a fact that was made clear to him by his father King Cold who told him that he only had to be wary of only two beings, Lord Beerus and Majin Buu because everyone else’s strength paled in comparison to his.
That was primarily one of the reasons Frieza never really took training seriously. After his failure at the hands of the Trunks, he uncovered his latent potential which included the Golden Frieza form. That form was ultimately vanquished at the hands of Goku and Vegeta in their Super Saiyan Blue Forms.
Black Frieza’s power levels, as earlier explained, is another matter entirely and was proven in Frieza’s defeat of Gas, Goku, and Vegeta, arguably three of the most powerful beings in Universe 7.
Is Black Frieza Canon?
Black Frieza is Canon as a result of the fact that Dragon Ball Super Manga is supervised by Akira Toriyama and mostly written by him as well. Before the Dragon Ball Super series, Black Frieza was Frieza’s new form after the Golden Frieza form.
This form appears to have forced Vegeta and Goku to have to work harder than they ever have in the past to conquer Frieza’s new form. It would require them to eventually combine and surpass their limits to find a way to stop Black Frieza from wreaking more havoc on the universe.
Is Black Frieza Stronger Than Beerus?
Black Frieza has undoubtedly proven himself to be one of the most powerful beings in the franchise but he is still quite a way from being stronger than Lord Beerus. Lord Beerus is the God of destruction, and there is every chance that he will retain that status for a long while.
Beerus has repeatedly shown that he is more powerful than Black Frieza through his fights with Goku in his Ultra Instinct form, fights that he has dominated without even trying. While we have yet to see a showdown between Black Frieza and Lord Beerus, it is almost inconceivable to assume that the former would triumph against the latter.
Is Black Frieza Stronger Than Goku?
Black Frieza is stronger than Goku, and indeed Vegeta as well, a fact he has proven from his battle with them in which he knocked them both out with a single blow. However, one might wonder if the outcome would have been different had Goku not been so weary and tired at the time the fight took place.
A rematch seems inevitable but as things stand, Black Frieza’s strength is quite superior to that of Goku and the latter would have to dig in to match or possibly exceed the enormous strength that Black Frieza has showcased on numerous occasions.
