The relationship between Severus Snape and Albus Dumbledore had many fans of the movie series very confused for the longest time. At some times, it looked like they were complete enemies and then they were working together and then again Dumbledore meets his end at Snape’s hand. This had many wondering why he did it, but if you followed the movie carefully, it’s pretty easy to figure out. Snape killed Dumbledore because Dumbledore asked him to do it.
Dumbledore found out that he had been poisoned by the curse of Marvolo Gaunt’s ring which meant that he had about a year before it completely overtook his body and killed him. Rather than die at the hands of the death eaters, he asks Snape to kill him instead. This would also serve to strengthen Voldermort’s trust in Snape as his ally.
Why Did Dumbledore Have to Die?
One thing we have seen with the Harry Potter movies is that every death has a significance beyond what you see and interestingly, it never takes too long for the tru reason to be revealed. At the scene of Dumbledore’s death, it looked like he was simply protecting Harry who was hiding just beneath them.
However, there is a deeper reason which is even more central to the story and was very significant for bring the series to a proper conclusion. Remember that Dumbledore was poisoned from the curse of wearing Marvalo Gaunt’s ring (second Hocrux) and was going to die eventually in about a year. Since he was already going to die, he chose to use his death to regain Voldermoth’s trust in Severus Snape. Also, he preserved young Draco’s soul and released the elder wand.
When Does Dumbledore Die?
Dumbledore became beloved to fans of Harry Potter because of the role he played in protecting young Harry and preparing him for the things to come. This is probably why many did not expect that he would die during the second wizarding war. Unexpected as it was, the death of Dumbledore occurred on the 30th day of June 1997, smack in the middle of the second biggest conflict of the Second Wizarding War.
His death occurred at the highest point of the Astronomy tower after he returned to Hogwarts with Harry Potter from a cave by the sea where Voldemort hid one of his Horcruxes. They were ambushed by Draco Malfoy and the death eaters, but when Draco faltered on killing him Snape intervened and threw him off the tower. Dumbledore fell to his death.
How Does Dumbledore Die?
Harry and Dumbledore flew to the Astronomy tower with brooms from behind Madam Rosmerta’s bar as the Battle of the Astronomy Tower had already begun. When they got to the Astronomy Tower, Draco Malfoy confronted Dumbledore, and an already invisibility cloaked Harry. Still, before Harry could reveal himself, he was immobilized with a silent Full Body Bind curse by Dumbledore.
Whilst disarming Dumbledore, Malfoy revealed that he was responsible for the string of assaults on Hogwarts students and that Voldemort had given him the order to kill Dumbledore. Dumbledore also revealed that he was aware of Draco’s mission and the attempts on his life involving the Opal Necklace and poisoned mead. However, he still permitted Draco to stay at Hogwarts because he knew Voldemort would kill him if he was expelled and exposed.
Dumbledore then pledged to keep Draco and his mother hidden so that Voldemort would never find them while also offering him protection. And despite the encouragement and arrival of numerous Death Eaters that Draco snuck into the castle, Draco could not bring himself to kill the Headmaster.
However, Snape arrived at the Tower after Filius Flitwick summoned him to help the order of the phoenix, but he instead killed Dumbledore after the headmaster had begged him in a way that concealed their agreement, blasting his body off the tower, unto the ground below.
Dumbledore’s body was discovered by Harry after the battle, lying dead on the ground in front of a large crowd of onlookers with his body broken from the fall.
In What Movie Does Dumbledore Die?
After the first five installments of Harry Potter, one thing was abundantly clear, Albus Dumbledore was a very skilled, talented and wise wizard who posed a great threat to Lord Voldermort and the evil plans he had for Harry. However, all of these came to an end when Dumbledore was killed in the sixth installment of the series which was titled “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”.
After trying and failing severally, to eliminate Dumbledore, Lord Voldermort’s clever use of the young death eater Draco Malfoy was the next best way to accomplish it. To his credit, Draco was able to smuggle death eaters into the school using the Vanishing Cabinets in the Room of Requirement as he confessed to Dumbledore just before his death. However, Severus Snape beats Draco to kill Dumbledore to the shock of many who will eventually find out that Snape and Dumbledore had it all planned out just the way it happened.
Did Dumbledore Really Die?
It was sad, depressing, and a huge shock when Snape chanted the killing spell at Dumbledore. Many did not see it coming but unfortunately, yes, Dumbledore really died in Harry Potter.
The proof of this is the fact that the freezing spell he cast on Harry was broken when he died. According to how spells work in the movie series, the spell would have remained if Dumbledore stayed alive. And the final proof that he is really and truly dead is that he joined the portraits of deceased headmasters at Hogwarts.
Did Dumbledore Know He Was Going to Die?
Yes, Dumbledore knew he was going to die after he figured out that the curse from the Marvalo Gaunt’s ring would spread and kill him eventually. And that was why he had an agreement with snape to kill him once it was time, and that opportunity for snape to carry out their agreement presented itself at the Battle of the Astronomy tower.
Does Dumbledore Come Back?
Much as it would have pleased Harry and fans of the movie, the answer is No, Dumbledore doesn’t come back. His death at the hands of Severus Snape was final. When Severus killed Dumbledore, he used the killing spell which was quick and without pain. If there was any doubt, the death eaters would have made sure that he never came back. As much as his character was strong and integral to the story, he needed to die for the action to flow in the movie. Most probably, the expectation to see him come back might be in a prequel to the Harry Potter movies.
