Why is Cinderella Not on Disney Plus, Was It Removed?

If you are looking to stream Cinderella on Disney Plus you will not find it on there. This is as a result of some contractual and licensing issues. The 2015 film used to be on the streaming platform but was removed in April 2022 due to the agreement that was entered into before the creation of Disney Plus.

Cinderella was not the only Disney film that was removed from Disney Plus. Another popular casualty was Maleficient. Nevertheless, you can still stream these films on other streaming platforms that have their licenses. Check out HBO, Netflix, and Starz.

Why isn’t Cinderella 2015 on Disney Plus?

It’s hard for someone with no understanding of the movie business to understand why a Disney movie is not available to watch on a streaming platform owned by Disney. It’s just like the Coca-Cola company not being able to sell Sprite even though they make the soft drink. But this is where contracts and licensing come into play.

What we know about it is that Cinderella is no longer available on Disney Plus because of the licensing agreements the company signed with other streaming platforms. While Disney has not provided specifics on the nature of the agreements, it noted that they were entered into before Disney launched its streaming service and so have to honor it.

Cinderella was initially on the streaming platform before it was finally taken off in April 2022. Some of the streaming services where you can get to watch the film include Netflix, HBO, and Starz.

Cinderella is a live-action adaptation of the 1950 Disney animation of the same title. It tells the story of a young girl whose father died and left her at the mercy of her stepmother. Ella endures her stepmother and stepsisters, but she is fortunate enough to be assisted out of the situation by a beggar she helped. Made from a budget of less than a hundred million, the film grossed $542 million at the Box Office.

Is Another Cinderella Story on Disney Plus?

Another Cinderella Story, the 2008 American teen musical comedy film is not a Disney film, hence Disney does not have the rights to have it on their streaming platform. Another Cinderella Story’s unavailability on Disney Plus has nothing to do with the contract issues surrounding the Cinderella and Maleficient movies that were taken off the platform.

Because of the popularity of Cinderella among other Disney characters, films, and animations, it is easy for people to believe that it is a Disney film, but it was actually produced by Dylan Sellers Productions. Disney did not get involved in either the production or distribution of the film, which is why it is not on any of their platforms.

While it is not available for streaming on some of the most known OTT platforms, Another Cinderella Story is available to buy or rent on many platforms, including Apple TV, Amazon Video, Google Play Movies, YouTube, Vudu, Microsoft Store, Red Box, DIRECTV, and Spectrum On Demand.
