Why is Cinderella Not on Disney Plus, Was It Removed?

Cinderella is Not on Disney Plus because of some contracts and licenses that restrict its streaming on Disney platforms. The 2015 film was initially on the streaming platform but was removed in April 2022 as a result of the earlier contract, which was in existence even before the creation of Disney Plus.

Needless to say, Cinderella was not the only Disney film that had to be taken off Disney Plus, as another casualty was Maleficient. However, you can stream it on other streaming platforms, including HNO, Netflix, and Starz, which have permission.

Why isn’t Cinderella 2015 on Disney Plus?

As indicated, the reason why Cinderella (2015) is not on Disney Plus at the moment is because of the contract that was signed a long time before the Disney streaming platform was created.

Cinderella was made from a budget of less than a hundred million, but it was a success, grossing $542 million at the Box Office. The film came as a live-action adaptation of the 1950 Disney animation of the same title. It tells the story of a young girl, Ella (Lily James), whose father died and left her at the mercy of her stepmother. Ella endures her stepmother and stepsisters, but she is fortunate enough to be assisted out of the situation by a beggar she helped.

Initially, it used to be on the streaming platform before it was finally taken off in April 2022. That said, Disney has not provided specifics on the nature of the licensing agreement that was signed with various other streaming platforms. Some of the streaming services mentioned in the contract include Netflix, HBO, and Stars, where you will find access to the film.

Is Another Cinderella Story on Disney Plus?

No, Another Cinderella story is also not available on Disney Plus. The reason is not because of the aforementioned contract by Disney but because the 2008 American teen musical comedy film is not a Disney film to start with.

Because of the popularity of Cinderella among other Disney characters, films, and animations, it is easy for people to believe that it is a Disney film, but it was actually produced by Dylan Sellers Productions. Disney did not get involved in either the production or distribution of the film, which is why it is not on any of their platforms.

While it is not available for streaming on some of the most known OTT platforms, Another Cinderella Story is available to buy or rent on many platforms, including Apple TV, Amazon Video, Google Play Movies, YouTube, Vudu, Microsoft Store, Red Box, DIRECTV, and Spectrum On Demand.

When Will Cinderella be on Disney Plus?

There is no official announcement from Disney on when Cinderella (2015) will find its way back to Disneyb Plus, but we are hopeful to see it back quite soon. There is no indication that Disney will make an official announcement before the film makes it back on its streaming service.
