Does Tanjiro Die in Demon Slayer?

Tanjiro does not die in Demon Slayer though he nearly gave up the ghost in grueling battles against demons such as Rui and Daki. Even when he is severely wounded in his fight against the Demon King named Muzan and on the verge of death, he is brought back to life. He ultimately triumphs over the Demon King and can live happily ever after with his loved ones in a world free of evil demons.

Who Killed Tanjiro in Demon Slayer?

Tanjiro faces attacks from numerous demons in the course of his run as a member of the Demon Slayer Corps. This includes both low-level and high-level demons, but nobody succeeded in killing Tanjiro.

Tanjiro vs Rui

Tanjiro battled Rui, a low-ranking member of the 12 Kizuki (the 12 strongest demons under the control of the demon king), alongside his sister, Nezuko. It was a very intense battle in which Rui, angered by the love between the two siblings, launched massive attacks against them.

For instance, Rui used his enhanced web of threads to try to squeeze the life out of Tanjiro. He also uses the special Blood Demon Arts known as The Blood Demon: Murderous Eye Basket against him. All of these leave Tanjiro on the verge of death, but he still manages to call on his abilities and powers, including the fighting style unique to his family, to get through. At the end of it all, Rui is the one that dies.

Tanjiro vs Daki

Another feared demon that nearly killed Tanjiro but ultimately did not succeed is Daki. Daki belongs to the upper echelon of the 12 Kizuki and is said to have killed about seven Hashira (the strongest demon slayers).

Daki and Tanjiro faced off on a number of occasions. In their final battle, they go head to head with each other and throw all they have got into the battle, leaving each other injured and missing various limbs. Tanjiro later runs out of energy and nearly dies but does not. He instead beheads Daki and makes history as one of the first Demon Slayers ever to kill an upper-rank Kizuki.

Tanjiro vs Demon King

Another occasion in which Tanjiro Kamado nearly died in Demon Slayer was in the ultimate battle against the Demon King, Muzan, the progenitor and controller of the evil demons that terrorize the human race.

During his fight against Muzan, Tanjiro loses an arm and one eye. He is also poisoned and, at some point, becomes mortally wounded. Tanjiro’s heart actually stops beating, but he does not die as he is brought back to life. Ironically, the person that brought him back to life is Muzan.

Having been defeated himself and seeing that his inevitable end was near, Muzan decides to give his blood to a dying Tanjiro and turn him into a demon. He wants the young lad to take over as the new Demon King and continue perpetuating evil.

In this way, Tanjiro is saved, and his missing eye and limb are restored. He fights against his fellow demon slayers for a while until his sister and his pal administer the medicine, which turns him back into a human being again.

Does Tanjiro Die in the Manga?

Often times when TV series or films are based on books, the screen work can differ from the book in various aspects, but this is not the case with Demon Slayer. The Demon Slayer anime pretty much stays faithful to the comic books. As such, just like it happens in the anime series, Tanjiro does not die in the Demon Slayer manga.

After ultimately surviving his battle against Muzan, he helps to restore human society to one that is finally free of demon threats. The Demon Slayer Corps is disbanded as there is no longer a need for their services, and Tanjiro and his pals, as well as his sister, get to marry, have kids, and grow old.
